This takes her to a trailer campground, where she is parked next to Harry Bronson, a retired cop who is supposed to be on vacation. Despite his wife's remonstrations to stop investigating, Bronson befriends Linda and quickly takes her case. What I liked best about this book is Hayden's ability to create tension and keep the reader turning the pages. I stayed up long past my bedtime to finish this book. I often found him zany, but very likable. There are good cops and bad cops helping and hindering during the many twists and plot turns of this fast paced mystery. The resurrection of the dead serial killer was a confusing scene, and the dysfunctional family was sometimes difficult to believe. The bowling theory of life, although clever, did not create a "tied up" ending for me, but over-all, L.
Hayden has written a suspenseful mystery which is a page-turner. Elsie Hayden continues her breezy style. A retired Dallas detective, Bronson finds himself in more pickles than Jovny the Vlasic stork delivers. When touring South Dakota by motor home, he meets Linda Randig, whose parents and husband Mitch have been murdered.
On the lam, Linda learns from Bronson that her RV is bugged and not by the kind Orkin exterminates. Bronson gives details about investigative work, as though he is an instructor at police academy. Being retired, "Bronson made a mental note to stop at a toy store and buy an official-looking badge.

Harry is a retired cop on vacation in South Dakota when his path crosses that of Linda Randig, a woman with some scary secrets. Her elderly parents and her husband have been murdered, and someone is threatening to kill her son and grandson if she doesn't cooperate with them. It would help if Linda knew exactly what they want from her, but all she can do is follow their instructions.
This isn't Harry's first rodeo, and when he realizes Linda needs help he's front and center.
While his wife and daughter enjoy the vacation, Harry disappears and runs into a serial killer who'd been presumed dead, and said serial killer sets Bronson up to take the fall for his most recent string of murders. Are there connections between Linda's situation and the serial killer? There are lots of twists and turns in this story, and for the reader who enjoys high drama, this is the story for you.
Even if you don't normally read suspense, this one is worth trying. Hayden has done it again, and I recommend this story. I guess I'd say take less time doing a bunch of action and try to build up the characters more next time so the reader can get a valid connection with them - otherwise it's really hard to connect with them and get into their shoes.
